In 2018 Advocate set up the Pro Bono Patrons scheme to make it easier for organisations and individuals to support access to justice and to make that clear to their clients too. Some of the leading sets at the Bar have joined the scheme, and we are delighted to be invited to become a Pro Bono Patron.
The Pro Bono Patrons scheme is designed to give organisations and individuals who underpin the core work of Advocate a way to share that commitment externally and publicly.
Without such core regular funding, it would be impossible for Advocate to carry out its function of structuring the pro bono work of the Bar, by enabling barristers to give their time to help those who need it, in all tribunals and courts and in all areas of law across England and Wales.
The support of Pro Bono Patrons in 2019 enabled Advocate to develop the Pro Bono Champions engagement scheme across the country, to improve stories of those helped to get access to justice and to invest in a new Volunteer Manager to better support and engage reviewers and panel members.
When considering a chambers move with my team, I met with all the major players in the industry. Guy and Tony were our clear preferred choice.
They were authentic in their approach, challenged us when they felt it necessary and ultimately delivered a seamless service. Most importantly they showed complete discretion, which was for us the most important criteria.
Their reputation for being leaders in their field is well deserved and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
